This is a video of my ‘little guy.’  He’s 11. Today was his first day in Middle School. He had a GREAT first day of school.  When I asked him why, he focused on that he got to ‘know’ all of his teachers.  They each brought in photos or objects representing their 10 favorite things.

This got me to thinking…..as leaders, do we share our ‘favorite things’ with our team?  Do we let them see what’s important to us and a priority in our world?  I think people work better when they ‘know’ you – assuming of course that they like what they get to know!  And I think you’re kinder and more understanding when you ‘know’ your team.  So get to know each other.  At your next staff meeting, have everyone bring five things or photos to share that are the things that are most important to them.  I bet you’ll learn something new about each other….

And it might just be the GREATEST staff meeting you’ve ever had!

Big love,

Kim

PS – Don’t overlook that the other things that made the day great were that the teachers were nice and they told him where to go (IE:  he wasn’t confused or unsure!)  These are other great reminders of how to be a good leader – be nice and let people know where to go!
