I love to read. I’m a voracious reader. I usually have two or three books going at once. So I decided, starting this month, I’m going to do a monthly “Good Read” and share with all of you a great book I’ve read. And if any of you have suggestions, please email me or leave a comment. I’m open!

I love all kinds of books – except scary ones. (and I guess truth be told, I find science fiction kinda scary…) It’s just like the movies, if it’s scary or creepy of violent, I’m not interested. That’s not entertainment to me. All that yucky stuff feels like it stays in my mind, body and spirit, so I just choose to not let it in in the first place! All the other genres – historical, youth, personal growth, fantasy, business, romance, fiction, non-fiction – I’m all in!

My Emily by Matt Patterson

You can read this book in less than an hour. I am a fast reader, but even if you’re not, you’ll whiz right through it. Because you won’t want to put it down and you’ll want to know what’s coming next. It is a quick, sweet, heart-warming read. Matt eloquently, and with just the perfect hint of humor, tells the precious story of his Emily. She was born with Down’s Syndrome and then diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 2. Matt shares their journey and the lessons they all learned.

You will be engaged from the first page to the last. Many people would have gone through this experience and become bitter or depressed or angry. Matt goes in another direction. He uses his experiences with Emily to love more deeply, live more fully and appreciate everything.

My suggestion – block off an hour or two and read it cover to cover all in one sitting. I promise, once you start, you won’t want to put it down until the last page. And be sure to have some Kleenex handy! You’ll need them before you’re done! Real. Raw. Touching.
